Hannah Levy ’21, a Forman alumna, returned to campus this summer to serve as a Summer Program counselor and teacher intern. For four weeks, she worked alongside English Teacher Carly Tutolo and supported students in their learning both inside and outside of the classroom.
Hannah was a Summer Program student before her sophomore year, which led her to attend Forman that fall. She was excited by the opportunity to give back to the program and create the same supportive environment she experienced.
“I attended the Summer Program going into my sophomore year of high school, not even knowing at the time that I would eventually enroll there in the fall,” she says. “That summer was such a positive and transformative experience for me; it helped me feel connected, confident, and excited about school and learning, which was something that I had not previously felt.”
Hannah graduated from the University of Maine Farmington, where she studied Special Education, in May, and has a bright outlook on her future.
“My career goals are to explore the world while making a meaningful impact through teaching,” she shares. “I hope to teach overseas to experience different cultures, customs, and educational systems firsthand. Eventually, I would love to work in boarding schools across the country.”
Although Hannah had previously worked with younger students, this was her first time teaching older ones—a challenge she embraced.
“Before this opportunity, I had completed student teaching with students in grades 3-5, but I had not worked with middle or high school students,” she says. “Teaching older students was a valuable opportunity not only to teach, but also to continue learning myself. It gave me insight into how to connect with and support students at different stages of development.”
One of the most rewarding aspects of the experience, she says, was the ability to interact with students throughout all parts of the day.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to watch their progress, both academically and socially, over the course of the program,” she says. “I also love the sense of community and familiarity that comes from being back at Forman. I think this teaching internship is an incredible opportunity for alumni to gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment they already know well.”
