TReK (Truth, Respect, and Kindness Expedition)

The first Truth, Respect, and Kindness Expedition (TReK) of the school year will take place on Monday, September 9th. TReK is an intentional community-building orientation program surrounding our core values of Truth, Respect, and Kindness.

  • Our 9th graders will explore the town of Litchfield and get to know their new home away from home.

  • Our 10th graders will stay on campus and explore Forman’s high ropes course to build resilience, teamwork, and leadership skills.

  • Our 11th graders will be hiking locally and participating in team-building activities that will ignite leadership skills and help build community.

  • Our 12th graders will hike a nearby mountain and participate in a service project. They will also spend time planning multiple aspects of their senior year to make their last year at Forman one they will always remember!

Day Parents: Click here for information pertaining to day students' TReK schedule.

In addition to the packing list for the regular school year, some TReK-specific items that we advise students to have are:

  • Moisture wicking clothing

  • Shoes or boots suitable for hiking, climbing, water, and being active

  • A sun hat and sunglasses

  • A bathing suit and towel

  • A reusable water bottle

Forman will provide bug spray, sunscreen, food, and drinks.

Medications

Medication distribution will take place on campus. We kindly request parents to pack a separate bag or container clearly labeled with an ample supply of medication specifically for the TReK adventure. Upon arrival at Forman, these medications should be handed over to the Student Health Center. Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Student Health Center. Your student’s safety and well-being are our utmost priority on this exciting journey!

Communication Protocol:

To promote an immersive and focused experience, we have decided to restrict the use of technology devices during the program. Students will not be allowed to bring smartphones, tablets, or any other electronic devices. In case of an urgent need to contact your child, we have made arrangements for direct communication. Please feel free to call the Administrator on Duty (AOD) at 860.601.8543. The AOD will be available to assist with relaying important messages or facilitating communication between parents and students.

We believe this technology-free adventure will provide an opportunity for students to connect with nature, develop new skills, and forge lasting memories. By disconnecting from technology, they can fully embrace the challenges and joys of the great outdoors.

School Store MyKidsSpending Account - Action Required

Please fund your student’s required MyKidsSpending account so that they can make School Store purchases. Any balances in the account from last year will carry over.

A suggested amount of $200 is recommended. This will cover items such as books and school supplies throughout the year. The purchasing restrictions you elected to have on their account when you filled out the “2024-2025 Bookstore Authorizations” will apply. Please contact Tiffany Hussey, School Store Manager, at tiffany.hussey@formanschool.org or 860.567.1982 if you have any questions about those restrictions or want to make changes. Students can also use cash, credit or debit cards, and ApplePay when shopping at the School Store. All books for classes and required school supplies will be charged to their MyKidsSpending account when handed out.

Magnus Health Forms - Action Required

To access your Magnus Health SMR Account, go to secure.magnushealthportal.com and enter your username and password. If you have issues logging in, please contact the Forman School IT Department at techhelp@formanschool.org or call 860.567.6237.

Pharmacy Information
We will continue using Petricone’s Pharmacy in Torrington, CT, for all medications. A pharmacist or representative from Petricone’s will be at Registration. They will need an insurance card and credit card to have on file for regularly scheduled medications. It is also helpful to have an extra prescription for your student’s medications. Click here to visit the Petricone’s Pharmacy website. You may contact them at petriconerx@optonline.net or call 860.489.5511.

Sports and Recreational Activities Program Questionnaire - Action Required

All students are required to participate in our Sports and Recreational Activities Program each afternoon, Monday through Saturday. This diverse program offers everything from competitive sports to theater arts, fostering social interaction, teamwork, leadership, and physical activity. Some activities might also take place in the evenings.

To ensure our offerings match our students’ interests and talents, we’ve put together a brief online questionnaire. Please take a moment to fill it out by clicking here and indicate the sports or activities your student is interested in for the coming year. While we strive to accommodate all choices, please note that some activities may shift based on interest or unforeseen circumstances. You’ll also have the option to choose uniform sizes for selected activities in the questionnaire. Please submit the form as soon as possible, if you have not done so already.

For information on equipment required for certain activities, which is not provided by Forman Athletics, please click here.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact John Strawson, Director of Athletics, at john.strawson@formanschool.org or call 860.567.6215.

Summer Reading Program - Action Required

Returning Students:

We are excited to announce a change in focus for Forman’s Summer Reading initiative! Forman’s 2024-2025 summer reading theme focuses on the power of experiential learning and provides context to your student’s Winterim experiences.

Winterim has been a significant highlight in our curriculum and an opportunity for our community to engage in hands-on learning surrounding a particular topic. With this in mind, faculty members have compiled a selection of texts that encompass the knowledge students will gain on their respective Winterim journeys. The assigned Winterim summer reading options range from various texts, podcasts, and films to meet the student body’s interests surrounding experiential education. The assigned Winteirm faculty will lead small groups during Orientation to facilitate reflection, connection, and community activities and provide context to your student’s summer reading.

Click here to view the list of summer reading texts associated with each Winterim group. Please engage with the texts associated with your student’s Winterim.

We ask students to be prepared to answer the following questions regarding their summer reading:

  • What did you experience, feel, and appreciate during your reading, listening, or viewing that impacted you?

  • What was your setting around you while you experienced the text?

  • What questions do you have for the adult who chose your summer reading?

Winterim faculty may provide guidance for textual reflection in addition to these reflections.

If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Stephanie Weaver, Associate Director of Academics, at stephanie.weaver@formanschool.org.

Grandparents' and Special Friends' Contact Form - Action Requested

By doing so, you ensure they stay connected to our Forman family through the Forman Letter (our school’s magazine), special e-newsletters with campus news, our holiday card, exclusive invitations to school events, and more. Thank you for helping us build a strong and vibrant community!

2024-2025 Dress Code Policy

Please note the following changes:

  • No more Formal Friday dress: We will only require formal dress on Mondays and special occasions, like the Academic Awards Ceremony and Commencement.

  • Forman Spirit Options: For our Tuesday through Friday class dress, students will be allowed to wear Forman sweatshirts in good repair (hoodies included) during the academic day. We will be providing more Forman polos and button-downs in the School Store, and some of our online stores (like Tommy Hilfiger) will have the option to add Forman crests to some clothing, like quarter-zips.

  • Cardigans and Blazers with Dresses: Students who choose to wear dresses will only need to wear a blazer or a cardigan if their dress is sleeveless.

  • Baseball Caps: While baseball caps still may not be worn during the academic day, they may be worn in the Dining Hall after school.

Packing List

Our suggested packing list below can be used as a general guideline for students and parents.

Packing List

Community Service Requirement

As a part of our commitment to fostering a culture of service and civic engagement, every student is required to complete a minimum of 15 community service hours per academic year. Please note that these hours do not include any disciplinary or National Honor Society (NHS) hours.

Summer presents an excellent opportunity for students to get a head start on fulfilling their community service obligations. Engaging in service projects during the summer months not only benefits our local communities but also allows students to explore their interests, develop new skills, and make meaningful contributions to society.

It is crucial that all students complete their required community service hours by the specified deadline. Failure to do so will result in the doubling of required hours for the following year. We believe this policy encourages accountability and reinforces the importance of active participation in community service endeavors.

If you or your child are looking for opportunities to complete the required community service hours over the summer, please consider reaching out to local nonprofits or community organizations.
