Forman School Kicks Off Annual Summer Program

July 3, 2023

Forman School welcomed students to its Summer Program on July 3. The Forman Summer Program, which started in 2014, is a dynamic balance of academics and recreation, all while inspiring, challenging, and empowering bright students who learn differently. The four-week boarding and day camp takes place on the school’s 125-acre campus in Litchfield, CT.

The program is open to students with learning differences entering grades 7-11. Students with ADHD or language-based learning differences, such as dyslexia, and dysgraphia, dyscalculia, learn independence, self-advocacy, and academic strategies to apply in the upcoming school year and beyond. Students take three classes in the mornings, where they discover their learning styles and practice executive function skills in a small classroom environment.

“One of the main goals of Forman’s Summer Program is to help students develop a love for learning in subjects like math, reading, and executive functioning,” says Brittany Bloom, Forman Summer Program Dean of Academics. “Over the four weeks, students will learn research-based study skills, new reading comprehension strategies, engaging ways to solve math problems, and how to find their voice as writers. All of these skills will help them be successful during the academic year and beyond.”

Following morning classes, students participate in two to four activities each afternoon.

“The Forman Summer Program is a summer experience like no other. Our comprehensive program offers a vast variety of diverse afternoon offerings. Students can immerse themselves in the beauty of nature through thrilling outdoor adventures, explore their physical ability with an extensive range of sports, and unleash their creative potential with our music and art choices,” says John Strawson, Director of the Forman Summer Program. “From cultivating teamwork and leadership in the wilderness to honing strategic thinking and discipline on the sports field/courts and encouraging artistic expression and critical thinking through music and art, this program offers an inclusive platform for personal growth and self-discovery and forges lifelong friendships.”

The 2023 program continues through July 28.
