Exploring Nature Through Abstract Sculpture

Students in Studio Art with Arts Teacher LK Sleat recently completed a creative, imaginative project: designing non-representational, non-functional abstract sculptures made entirely from objects found in nature.

Using materials such as walnut ink made from walnuts foraged on campus, along with twigs and sheep’s wool, students transformed organic elements into striking, otherworldly forms.

“Students created such diverse pieces,” said Ms. Sleat. “[They] seem to have their own dialogue between the creatures.”

The students’ creativity was on full display in the Visual and Performing Arts Center, where their visions came to life in three dimensions.
