Forman Crew Team Excels at Mercer Lake/ISA Sculling Championships and Cooper Cup

Despite adverse conditions, Forman athletes representing the Litchfield Hills Rowing Club demonstrated their talent and determination at the Mercer Lake/ISA Sculling Championships on March 23rd-24th.

In the novice events, Kate Ellis-Henderson ’27 led the way, rowing 4 seat in the Women’s Novice 8+, finishing with an impressive time of 8:22. Carter Gouaux ’24, serving as coxswain for the Men’s Novice 8+, contributed to his crew's commendable time of 6:45.

The momentum continued in the novice sculling races, with Gray Freeman ’27 rowing 3 seat in the Novice Men’s 4x and finishing in 8:43.

Transitioning to varsity events, Mariée Voss ’24 and Stella McGinty ’24 showcased exceptional teamwork in the Women’s 2nd Varsity 4x, clocking in at 8:32.43. They later teamed up again in the Women’s 2nd Varsity 4+, finishing in 8:52.

Carter continued to excel as coxswain for the Men’s Varsity 4+ race, securing a spot in the B Finals Race with a time of 7:05. Despite challenging wind conditions on Sunday, Carter and his crew finished with a time of 7:16 in the Men’s Varsity 4+ Final.

Sunday morning saw Mariée and Stella back in action, racing the Women’s Lightweight Varsity 2X and finishing in 9:43.

Following this success, Forman athletes competed at the Cooper Cup in Pennsauken, NJ, on April 27th. Racing in 80-degree weather, they showcased their talent in various events, including sculling and sweep races.

Mariée and Stella displayed remarkable adaptability, placing seventh in the Women's Youth/U19 2- after only a week of rowing together. They also competed in the Women's JV 4+ along with coxswain Alissa Picard ’24, finishing fifth overall with a time of 6:40.

Alissa also coxed the Women’s U17 4+, finishing seventh overall with a time of 6:55.

Gus Thorpe ’25 secured first place in the Men’s Youth/U19 2- A final with a strong finish, clocking in at 7:31. He also achieved an impressive time of 5:50 in the Men’s JV 2X.

Grant Harlow ’26 showcased his determination, earning a spot in the B Finals of the U17 2X and finishing overall in sixth place. He also teamed up with coxswain Carter in the Men's U17 8+, finishing with a strong time of 5:29. Carter’s exceptional coxing skills were further demonstrated as he later medaled in the Men's Novice 4+ with a time of 6:06.

Forman athletes will continue their journey at the Founder's Day Regatta at Lake Waramaug, aiming to build on their successes at the Cooper Cup.
